Formation Studies
Drawings on tracing paper

The collection of drawings named Formation Studies is a series of pedestrian flows produced by different camera formations. The formations being used (line, echelon, file, vee) refer to army formations. For me, this reference is particularly interesting because the camera contains weapon characteristics. Formation Studies should be considered as an elevation of the work Claiming Space.

The process behind the work is as following: I position several experimenters with cameras on the Binnenrotteplein. From a higher, concealed perspective I document the scene. Once I finished documenting the event, I play the video documentation on my computer. By positioning a tracing paper on top of my computer screen, I am able to draw the patterns manually.
